Do you ever crave certain foods at different times of the year?? I do!

In the summer I am craving cool, fresh ingredients, or charred meats soaked in BBQ sauce YUMMY!

Now that the colder weather is here to stay I am craving warm comfort foods like soups and sandwiches, or rich delicious roasts smothered in rich brown gravy and a nice piece of crispy bread to sop it all up after.

Roast are a quick and easy way to bring warm comfort foods into your kitchen. Grab a good chunk of roast, slap it in the slow cooker with some onions, potatoes and carrots. Add some water and seasonings like garlic, rosemary, and sage. Season lightly with salt and pepper and let the slow cooker take over. Finish off by turning those juices into a rich and savory gravy by adding the juices to a pot and bringing to a boil. Add a tablespoon of cornstarch to 1/4 cup of water. Whisk that into the pot, and voila, you've got a succulent rich gravy! Don't forget to butter a nice hardy piece of bread to sop it all up with afterwards!

We all dread those long cold winters, but comfort food is what truly helps us get through them. We have our slow cookers to thank for making these delicious foods simple to make. So cheers to the legends of slow cookers that are doing all the work, while we shovel our vehicles out of the snow!

What are some of your favorite comfort foods?
